The Resignation Of Vivian Gungaram Not Accepted

Must Read

Vivian Gungaram, assistant secretary of the Mauritius Athletic Association, submitted his resignation on Tuesday 14 September. He sent his letter after he was provisionally charged of fraud before the court of Rose-Hill. However, his resignation was not accepted by the members of the executive committee. The latter met on the same day at the Nebiolo House, in Réduit.

The committee showed solidarity with the former president of the Mauritius Athletic Association. It is said that the resignation of Vivian Gungaram was unanimously rejected. The committee members stated that there is an ongoing investigation and they are waiting for the conclusion.

Vivian Gungaram was released after posting a bail of Rs 9 000 and signing a debt undertaking of Rs 40 000.

This followed a complaint by the Mauritius Olympic Committee regarding a training camp in South Africa for three athletes at a cost of Rs 91 032 for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.

According to the COM, only two athletes participated in the camp, but the budget for three people was not reduced and the difference of about Rs 30 000 was not reimbursed.
