The demonstration planned for August 12 has been cancelled. The official reason is that the coordination meeting between the leaders could not take place because of Dr. Navin Ramgoolam’s health concerns. This means that the deadline is too short. The unofficial reason is that the various parties could not agree. It should be noted that Dr. Ramgoolam was admitted to the clinic in Wellkin because of health concerns last week. Patrick Assirvaden said in a statement to the press that the police have not yet given its authorization.

The police quickly reacted to what Patrick Assirvaden said to the press. The President of the Labour Party stated that the authorization of the police was not obtained. However, Inspector Shiva Coothen stated that Line Barracks could not give permission for the demonstration initially planned for August 12, because “no one showed up on August 2 to define the modalities of this march”.
