The Ombudsperson For Financial Services Threatens To Resign Over Lack Of Resources

Must Read

The Ombudsperson for Financial Services is threatening to quit. Speaking to the press on Thursday morning, Dan Maraye deplored a lack of financial and human resources to succeed in his mission. Maraye, a former Governor of the Bank of Mauritius, said that from 2021 to 30 June 2022, 682 complaints were registered. “824 are being processed and 746 cases have been settled this year despite a reduced number of staff,” Dan Maraye said. He added that the space where staff members work is to be deplored. “We can’t do much without the resources. So my reputation is at stake. This is dangerous! If things continue this trend, I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to do that,” he said. Dan Maraye said he would also like to extend the jurisdiction of the Ombudsperson for Financial Services to other financial companies, such as the Development Bank of Mauritius or cooperative societies.
