The Lorry Driver Who Crushed The Overhead Pedestrian Bridge In Roche Bois Taken Back To Police Cell

Must Read

Dasaraden Ramsamy, the lorry driver involved in the accident at Roche-Bois on Saturday, where an overhead pedestrian bridge was damages, appeared in court in Port-Louis this morning. A provisional charge of “Damaging Government Property” has been laid against him. The police objected to his release on bail. Two objections were raised, namely the risk of him interfering with witnesses and for his own safety.

The 39-year-old lorry driver will be brought before the courts again on 4 March 2024. As a reminder, part of the overhead footbridge at Roche-Bois was destroyed after being hit by the lorry.

The accident caused a traffic jam on the northbound exit of the capital. The overhead footbridge at Roche-Bois was damages and fell on the road. No one was injured in the accident, but the police opposed the driver’s release on parole before the courts on Sunday.

During his questioning, the driver was asked to explain the causes of the accident. The driver reportedly admitted that he had made an error of judgment and that the load on his lorry, a cement pump, could have been lowered. The driver also explained that he had made trips on this part of the motorway in the past. But it was on Low Bed lorries.

He added that his destination was Laventure, the headquarters of a company specialising in concrete. When questioned about the speed at which he was travelling, the driver indicated that the truck was travelling at less than 80 km/h. After questioning, the driver was taken into custody.
