The American Chamber Of Commerce In Mauritius (AMCHAM) Unveils Its First Mauritius Business Climate Index

Must Read

The American Chamber of Commerce Mauritius (AMCHAM Mauritius), in close collaboration with Analysis Kantar is proud to announce the release of the AMCHAM Mauritius Business Climate Index (ABCI). This strategic index has emerged as a reliable barometer, accurately reflecting the perceptions of the business community, both among AMCHAM members and companies operating in Mauritius.

Through the ABCI, AMCHAM Mauritius provides economic operators with a relevant tool to identify and assess the major issues facing the business world in Mauritius. This fosters a more constructive dialogue with government authorities and major stakeholders. The ambition is to work proactively to optimise the business climate, bringing Mauritius into line with international benchmark standards.

It should be stressed that even though the ABCI score is slightly below average, this should not be interpreted negatively. Rather, it highlights areas for improvement, covering a wide range of issues from governance to economic performance.

This index is a real indicator for the government and the business world, inviting reflection and the implementation of appropriate strategies. It is a call to action for decision-makers, with a view to meeting today’s challenges and enhancing Mauritius’ attractiveness as a trade hub.

Mr Ravin Lama, Chairman of AMCHAM Mauritius, said: “The AMCHAM Mauritius Business Climate Index goes beyond a simple report. It embodies the unwavering commitment of our Board and our partners, dedicated to the development of business relations between the United States and Mauritius. It is also the fruit of a vision inspired by the U.S. Ambassador to Mauritius, H.E. Mr. Henry Jardine, to whom we express our deepest gratitude.”

For his part, H.E. Mr Henry Jardine, Ambassador of the United States to Mauritius, welcomed the initiative, hailing the efforts of AMCHAM Mauritius to promote a better understanding of economic and business issues in Mauritius.

Mr Mohamed Mouratsing, CEO of Analysis Kantar Indian Ocean, said: “We are honoured to be working with AMCHAM Mauritius on the design of the ABCI. We are convinced of the crucial importance of an in-depth analysis of the business climate to guide strategic decisions. The ABCI, backed by our proven methodologies and analytical expertise, is proving to be an invaluable tool, providing relevant insight into Mauritius’ economic dynamics. We have every confidence in its ability to effectively guide strategies towards an economically flourishing future.

The report is currently available at the American Chamber of Commerce’s main office in Ebene and also on the AMCHAM website, www.amcham- mauritius.com.

Established in 2018, the American Chamber of Commerce in Mauritius (AMCHAM) is a key pillar in strengthening business ties between the United States and Mauritius. This non-profit organisation has established itself as a forum for privileged exchanges between American and Mauritian companies, boosting bilateral trade and strengthening economic relations.
