Located at Rue St George, the old building that houses the NGO Lakaz A, is struggling to stay standing. Infested by termites, this Creole house needs a facelift to continue operating its services. An appeal for help will be launched soon.
“The house is certainly part of our heritage. But we have to raze it to the ground to build a new one,” says Ragini Rungen, the manager of this shelter for vulnerable people.
And she is so categorical because the house cannot be saved: “The building is infested with termites. These insects have already invaded the land where the center is located. The only option is to rebuild another center, keeping, if possible, the same character of the present building. But everything will depend on the budget. We will have an estimate soon.
The NGO is counting on the generosity of the public to help finance the project: “Any small help would be welcome,” says Ragini.
As a reminder, Lakaz A welcomes sex workers, drug addicts and other vulnerable people without judgment. The center provides a hot meal and offers activities to its beneficiaries during the day.
