Specialists In General Practice To Be Recruited By MOH

To better control the Covid-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Health is planning to recruit doctors again. This time, it will be specialists in the field of general medicine that are going to be recruited. They must be doctors in accordance with section 22 of the Medical Council Act and a specialist in accordance with section 23 of the Medical Council Act. The new recruits will be paid a salary of Rs 59,700 to Rs 95,000.

Since the beginning of this month, the Domiciliary Monitoring Unit (DMU) of the ministry has been operational. The doctors recruited are tasked with making home visits to Covid-19 positive people, who are self-isolating. They will follow up on these patients, according to a protocol defined by the supervisory ministry. They have been recruited on a four-month contract basis and are paid a monthly salary of Rs 80,000.

Last month, the ministry recruited 172 doctors, who are general practitioners to reinforce the existing team. They have undergone six months of training in the various health departments, namely medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, gynaecology and paediatrics. In addition, some 40 nurses were recruited last month by Health.

On August 20, the government explained how the COVID-19 positive individuals in home isolation will be under the care of the DOMICILIARY MONITORING UNIT (DMU) of the Ministry of Health and Wellness.  A positive person in home confinement will receive a first medical visit to allow the DMU to assess their health status.  A HOTLINE for emergencies will be provided to individuals tested positive in home isolation. A person in home isolation will receive another visit from the DMUonce the period of isolation is over. The person will be able to resume normal activities the day after the end of the home isolation period. Eventually, individuals who were in home isolation will receive a medical certificate that will also serve as a certificate attesting the period of home isolation. All those with comorbidities who are categorised as ineligible for home isolation, as diagnosed by a physician of the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
