Sixty-Year-Old Arrested For Drug Trafficking

The actions of Marie Claire Ailine Edmond, a 61 year old maid, were closely monitored by a team of the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) of the Central Division for some time. This resident of Cité Mangalkhan, Floréal, who was suspected of being involved in drug trafficking, was apprehended this Monday afternoon, October 3. This after a tailing in the area of Tamarin where she was found in possession of 19 blue adhesive strips containing a substance that the ADSU suspects to be heroin, that is 29 grams. A sum of Rs 94,400, suspected to be from the sale of this drug, was seized from his possession. The market value of the seized drugs is Rs 435 000.

It is around 2:50 pm this Monday October 3 that Ailine Edmond was arrested by the men of the sergeant Surat. After her arrest, she was taken to the ADSU office in Curepipe for questioning under the supervision of Assistant Superintendent of Police, Sooresh Ramburuth before being taken into custody. She was suspected of obtaining heroin in the coastal village of Tamarin to sell it in Cité Mangalkhan, Floréal. A relative of this woman had been arrested on August 15 in possession of heroin worth over Rs 5 million in Bambous.

The suspect was brought before the court of Bambous this Tuesday morning of October 04 under a provisional charge of drug trafficking. As the police objected to her release on parole, she was returned to her cell.
