She Dies From Asphyxiation While Showering

A tragedy occurred at the home of the Muthoora family in New France late Thursday afternoon, April 28. Padmini Muthoora, 30 years old also known as Ayushi who was working as a saleswoman in a store died of asphyxiation by inhaling carbon monoxide while taking her bath. It was her brother who made the macabre discovery.

It is around 17 hours that the thirty-year-old entered the bathroom. Half an hour later, not seeing her out, her brother called her, but she did not answer. The water was still running in the bathroom. Her brother had to open the door of this bathroom which was not locked. There she saw her sister lying on the floor inert. A smell of gas emanated from the bathroom. The hot water was still running. A gas cylinder and a shower gas heater were installed inside this bathroom.

He immediately alerted his parents. A private doctor living in the area was called to the scene. Unfortunately, he was unable to determine the death of the young woman. The personnel of an ambulance of the Emergency Medical Service who arrived on the spot had to refer the case to the police.

Padmini Muthoora’s body was later taken to the morgue of Victoria Hospital, Candos for an autopsy. The autopsy was performed on Thursday evening, April 28, by Dr. Ananda Sunnassee, Police Medical Officer attributed the death to asphyxiation caused by carbon monoxide inhalation.

An investigation has been initiated at the level of the New France Police Station to shed light on the exact circumstances of this tragedy.

The funeral of Padmini Muthoora took place this Friday, April 29 at 11 am. She was cremated at the Bigara cemetery.
