Must Read

A tragedy at sea occurred this Tuesday morning of March 1st in the lagoon of Flic-en-Flac. Goolan Coda Baccus, 72 years old, resident of Quinze Canton, Vacoas drowned. The septuagenarian with his partner, 54 years old, went to this beach not far from the Manisha Hotel. He was swimming in the water when he found himself in trouble.  His body was recovered by volunteers, before being taken in charge by elements of the National Coast Guard (NCG) to be taken to the Occident clinic where a doctor declared him dead.

The septuagenarian who lived for a long time in Canada, was going back and forth between Mauritius and his adopted country for some time. On Tuesday morning, March 1, around 8:30 am, he was swimming in the water while his companion was sitting on the sand. At one point, he found himself in trouble while swimming about ten meters from the beach in three feet of water.

Volunteers came to his rescue and brought him back to the beach. Men from the NCG took him to the Occident clinic in Flic-en-Flac. Unfortunately, a doctor on duty was to pronounce him dead. The body of Goolan Coda Baccus was then taken to the morgue of the Victoria Hospital, Candos for an autopsy. The autopsy, performed by Dr. Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer, attributed his death to asphyxia due to drowning.

An investigation was initiated at the police station of Flic-en-Flac to determine the exact circumstances of this tragedy.
