Second Interrogation Of Vimen Sabapati At CCID

Former national muay thai trainer Vimen Sabapati, 39, was questioned for the second time on Friday June 16 at the Central Criminal Investigation Department (CCID) in the Central Barracks. Eight days after the release of the Vimen Leaks audiotape, on which questionable practices by the Special Striking Team (SST) at police headquarters and those of the Anti-Drug and Smugglig Unit (Adsu) were brought to light. On Friday June 16, Vimen Sabapati explained the circumstances in which his conversations, supported by screenshots in his affidavit, were recorded.

Vimen Sabapati is assisted by Mes Shakeel Mohamed and Melany Nagen. The Vacoas resident, who is part of Navin Ramgoolam’s security team, confirmed that he was the author of the recordings in question. He gave his statement to CCID Special Cell investigators in the presence of Me Melany Nagen. He elaborated on his meeting with Constable Manally, the duration of this conversation and its content with this police officer. He also reported on a police search of his home on Thursday, April 8, 2021, during confinement. On that day, he was in possession of 1.5 million euros.

The suspect, arrested for drug trafficking on May 3, also confirmed transcripts such as those on his recording. He will be back at the CCID premises on Tuesday June 20. The day before, on Monday June 19, his motion for parole will be heard before the Port-Louis Court of the Southern Division at 1pm.
