Samudra Art Prize: Best Artist Award Goes To Kim Yip Tong

Samudra Art Prize will give its verdict on June 10. The selected artists were awarded in three categories including Best Artist, Best Amateur Artist and Best Young Artist. An exhibition will be held at the Caudan Art Center from June 11 to July 3.

Organized by Mélissa Leclézio, this first edition of the Samudra Art Prize invited local artists to an immersion. Objective? To make the public discover the universe of the coral ecosystem through an art contest.

After submitting their works alone, a handful of artists were selected to continue the adventure.

Here are the winners by category:

  • Best Artist – Kim Yip Tong. Best Amateur Artist – Julie Télot
  • Best Young Artist – Océan Saddul
  • Best sculpture/installation – Siddick Nuckcheddy
  • Best photo/video – Anthony Bouic
  • Best street art – Julia Carosin
  • Best portrait – Maryam Baber
  • Special mention of the jury – Vipin Dhunnoo, Jawaad Issoop, Anne-Clotilde St Mart, Sharon Thompson.
  • Maurice Giraud prize for best painting – Cendrine Balaram.
  • Best textile – Coralie Thiboudois.

Note that the winner in the Best Artist category pockets the sum of Rs 80 000. In the Best Amateur Artist category, the winner gets art supplies worth Rs 42 000. The Best Young Artist will receive Rs 20 000 in the form of a savings bond.

As a reminder a panel of jury composed of : Nicolas Bastien-Sylva, Béatrice Binoche, David Constantin, Rishaad Currimjee, Charlie d’Hotman, Claude Koenig, Caroline Martial, Steve Nayar and Pascal Soufflet.
