SAJ Has Shaped The History Of Our country Like No Other

Must Read

We just learned that SAJ is dead. I have the chance to meet him on several occasions, but our first meeting was in 1982 during the election.

Known for his outspokenness, Sir Aneerood Jugnauth has left his mark on the country’s history for many reasons, including his long tenure as head of state. He is, perhaps, one of the few politicians to have had such a long and rich political career. A rollercoaster career with a phenomenal return to power in 2000 and 2014.

Sir Anerood Jugnauth, who began his political career in 1963, was the country’s first ever Prime Minister in 1982. He is the real Prime Minister representing change and this marked the end of SSR’s reign. After the break-up of 83, he returned to power with the Ptr and the PMSD. In 1987: He won the election again. In 1991, Sir Anerood Jugnauth became Prime Minister for the fourth time.

But in 1995, he was defeated by the Ptr-MMM alliance. But his career at the head of the country was far from over.  In 2000, in alliance with the MMM, Sir Anerood Jugnauth took over the post of Prime Minister, then in 2003, he became President of the Republic by handing over the post of PM to Paul Bérenger and his son took his place as leader of the MSM.

It was thought that this was the end of his career as an active politician.

But on 30 March 2013, he resigned as President of the Republic to throw himself once again into the political arena. Incredibly, in 2014, Sir Anerood Jugnauth returned as head of government.

Finally in 2017, he handed over the Prime Ministership to his son, Pravind Jugnauth.
