Riambel Driver Arrested For Drug Trafficking

A provisional charge of drug trafficking was lodged this Monday, June 13, against Mamode Samir Subratee, a 49-year-old driver, at the Souillac court. This resident of Riambel was found in possession of 9 blister packs of Pragatas 75 mg tablets, each containing 10 tablets, 4 blister packs of Cabalin 150 mg each containing 12 tablets and 2 blister packs of Cabalin 150 mg containing 6 tablets. These are classified as psychotropic drugs.

It was around 16:30 on Saturday, June 11 that Samir Subratee was arrested. It was during a raid by police officers of the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) of the South Division, led by sergeant Ramkeelavon, at his home in Riambel. These officers had obtained information that this driver is involved in illegal activities.

This information turned out to be true. 9 blister packs of Pregatas tablets, 4 blister packs of Cabalin tablets and 2 blister packs, each containing 6 tablets, were seized. These tablets are classified as psychotropic drugs.

Samir Subratee was placed in a police cell at the Chemin-Grenier police station. On Sunday morning, June 12, he was brought before the Bail and Remand Court in Port-Louis. On Monday, June 13, he was again brought before the court in Souillac.

In addition, a chase was undertaken on the Link Road in Gros-Bois, L’Escalier by an ADSU team at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, June 12, to catch up with a gray Nissan car. The car was driven by Sahil Sookun, a 21 year old resident of L’Escalier. The suspect car was driving towards the Gros-Bois traffic circle. When the car arrived near a cane field, the ADSU officers noticed that the driver threw an object out of the window.

The police officers lost sight of the Nissan. This object, which was recovered, is a cylindrical lid containing synthetic drugs and a plastic containing 10 doses of heroin. At around 14:30 on the same day, a police raid was conducted at the home of the suspect. He was arrested. A search of his home revealed a piece of paper wrapped in heroin and a translucent plastic container of methadone.

The suspect led ADSU officers to Deux-Bras, New-Grove where he abandoned the car. Sahil Sookun was arraigned in Souillac Court this Monday morning, June 13, where he faces a provisional charge of drug trafficking.
