Ravi Tarah, the prime suspect in the Reena Devi Rookhee murder investigation, has confessed to his crime. The 52-year-old man, was arrested in the morning of this Wednesday, August 4, and confessed to have killed his ex-couple, at Ramparsad Aumeer Road in Triolet, with a ‘Chinese knife’. He also affirmed that the murder was premeditated, because it was several days that he tried to meet the victim. He had decided that if Reena Rookhee did not come back to him, he would end his life. This is exactly what happened on Sunday August 1st.
Subjected to an interrogation, Ravi Tarah did not prevaricate in front of the investigators. The inhabitant of Poste-de-Flacq confessed that he inflicted several blows of sabre to his companion, Reena Devi Rookhee after an argument in the day of Sunday, August 1st. Moreover, during an exercise of reconstitution of the facts, in Triolet, he went with the confessions. He explained to the investigators of the MCIT and the members of the SOCO Northern all his actions before he stabbed the victim in the head. He said, “Mo conner ki fason ki mo finn bat li kout kouto sinoi lors so latet et dan figir, inn bizin mort mem sa. Mo satan ti fini mont dan mo latet, mo ti vinn pou samem. Kan linn tombe, mo pa finn guet li, mo finn alé”.
According to information, Ravi Tarah was completely out of touch with reality. The victim, Reena Devi Rookhee, a supermarket employee, had decided to break up with him after four years of living together because he was twiddling his thumbs and spending his time downing rum bottles instead of looking for work. He did not contribute a penny to boil the pot. The forty-year-old mother of two was also his whipping boy. When Reena didn’t give him money, he would take it out on her.
In the afternoon of that fateful day, Kajal had made him understand that there is no turning back, Ravi then took out his knife and hit the mother multiple times without warning. He even cut off her ear and slashed her cheek, leaving her behind. Since then, he found refuge at a friend’s house in Morcellement St André. He then went to Flacq, then to a cousin’s house in Mahebourg before spending the night at Camp Fouquereaux before his last destination, which was Bel-Air. Even though he was wanted, he made the whole trip by bus.
As a reminder, the body of Reena Devi Rookhee, 42 years old, was discovered on a vacant lot near the Triolet police station on Sunday evening. The autopsy report conducted by the head of the forensic department, Dr. Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, attributed the cause of death of the victim to several lacerations on her head. The officers of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Trou-aux-Biches had interviewed several relatives of the victim on Tuesday, August 3. A local resident had even claimed to have seen the victim arguing with a man on Sunday. The images of the Safe City cameras were also viewed to follow the movements of the victim and the suspect in the night of Sunday, August 1st.
The suspect was brought, this Wednesday, in the court of justice of Pamplemousses under a provisional charge of premeditated murder and was returned to the police cell.
