PSAC 2021-22: Pass Rate of 80.6% for the Republic of Mauritius

The Director of the Mauritius Examinations Syndicate (MES), Mrs Brenda Thanacoody Soborun, expressed satisfaction, yesterday morning during a press conference held in Réduit, as regards the overall performance of primary students for the Republic of Mauritius who sat for the Primary School Achievement Certificate (PSAC) examinations for the year 2021-2022, which stands at 80,6%, compared to 73,9% last year, therefore representing an increase of 6,7 %.

She recalled that the PSAC examinations initially to be held in April 2022 were postponed to October 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which she highlighted, enabled educators to complete the syllabus.

Mrs Brenda Thanacoody Soborun pointed out that there was a total of 19,479 candidates, out of which 16,011 were school candidates, consisting of 8,159 girls and 7,852 boys. She emphasised that female candidates performed better than boys, with a pass rate of 85,2 %, against 75,8 %. She indicated that some 2,428 candidates of Grade 5 sat for the PSAC 2021-22 examinations.

As regards the correction exercise, she informed that it was conducted with diligence to ensure the reliability of the results obtained. The Director gave the assurance that each script is corrected at least twice and that results are computerised to maintain the level of quality standards and security.

Besides, Mrs Thanacoody Soborun expressed satisfaction as regards the improved performance in languages, mathematics, science, and history and geography and urged educators to go through the Examiners’ Reports to better prepare their students for the PSAC examinations.

She also lauded the improved performance in many ZEP schools, such as Ste Thérèse de l’Enfant Jesus RCA with 86,4% pass rate and Stanley Government School with 78,6% pass rate.

The pass rate for year 2021-22 stands at 80.79 %.

Rodrigues and Agaléga

The pass rate for year 2021-22 stands at 77.4 % against 74.5% in 2020-21, representing an increase of 3 %.

As for Agaléga, the performance of candidates improved by 30 %.
