Pravind Jugnauth: We Can Sense A Feel-Good Factor In The Country

Must Read

The Prime Minister presented his wishes to the nation during a televised address on the MBC. Pravind Jugnauth believes that the year 2023 starts on a positive note. After 3 years of challenges, he said, “we see that the country is breathing and that the population is getting better”. He added that Mauritius has returned to “the path of prosperity and development”. Pravind Jugnauth adds that the year 2022 ended on a very encouraging note. “You can feel a feel-good factor all over the country,” he said.

On the economy, Pravind Jugnauth said he is aware that the price increases have impacted many families. But he added that they occurred in a context of international crisis and that the government has no control over these factors. He stressed, however, that the government has supported employees, including a special allowance of Rs 1,000 granted in the budget and, from January, a compensation of Rs 1,000. He stressed that the government has also increased subsidies on many products. Despite that, Pravind Jugnauth said he is optimistic because economic growth is back as are tourists. This benefits the hotels but also the small businesses that live from tourism.

PM says he will complete his mandate

In his greetings to the nation, the Prime Minister addressed several topics. On the political front, he recalled that the people have trusted him in 2019. “We will not betray this trust,” he said. He added that he and his government will “complete” their mandate and that they will fulfill the “commitments that have been made in a responsible manner”.

He also reiterated his commitment to dismantling the mafias. “I will not back down despite threats, pressures and difficulties,” he said.

Pravind Jugnauth also stressed that he is personally following the issue of “domestic violence against women and girls”. He also asked Mauritians to make a commitment to reduce the number of road accidents… so that other families do not have to live such tragedies.
