It is at the Vacoas Detention Center that the Superintendent of Police, Jitenswaraj Beefye, was placed since this Tuesday, November 23, after his arrest for a case of sodomy and for violating the Information and Communication Technologies Act (ICTA). A complaint was made against him by a 34-year-old woman, who has been his concubine since 2017.
It was at the police station in Quatre-Bornes that this 30-year-old woman made her statement late Monday afternoon, November 22. She gave an account of her meeting with this police officer in 2017 on Facebook under a pseudonym. After exchanging messages, they met several times and eventually fell in love. During the same year, they got together in a rental house in Rose-Hill. This woman says she left her marital roof to live with this police superintendent.
By January 2019, she says, they had moved into a house in the Four Corners area. In her statement, the woman said she left the country to work in Egypt in November 2020. She returned to the country on October 31, 2021.
During their married life, the woman explained, this police officer allegedly sodomized her on several occasions. She said she kept this heavy secret because of this man’s violent nature. The last time he had committed this offense was in October 2020 in Quatre-Bornes.
Jitenswaraj Beefye, 53 years old and was assigned to the western division, was arrested during the day on Tuesday, November 23. He was brought before the Curepipe Magistrate’s Court on a provisional charge of sodomy and breach of ICTA the same day. Because the police objected to his release on parole, the motion for his release, which was to be heard on Wednesday, November 24, was postponed because some information has not yet been verified.
The police investigation in this case is being conducted by the men of Assistant Superintendent of Police Vikash Seebaruth of the Major Crime Investigation Team in Port Louis.
