Must Read

The village of Saint Julien woke up in shock on Saturday morning, November 19. The charred body of a woman was found in a car on the bank of a river. Her identity was later established as Sanjanah Khoobeeram, a Health Care Assistant at the Arya Samaj in Belle-Mare. Her companion, Constable Tayrish Buldy, 31, also known as Kishan, was arrested shortly afterwards on a murder charge. The policeman suspected his partner of infidelity. The day before, he posted a video on Facebook that he recorded in his car in which he accused the victim of having an extramarital affair. Tayrish Buldy, who is injured, was taken to Dr Bruno Cheong Hospital in Flacq for treatment. He was subsequently admitted and placed under police surveillance.

It was at around 6am on Saturday 19 November that a planter in his plantation called 114 to inform the fire service that a car was on fire. The fire brigade soon arrived on the scene. It was at this point that several residents of the area were awakened by the siren of the fire trucks. A crowd quickly gathered at the scene. Police officers from Lallmatie also arrived at the scene. After the fire was brought under control, the fire brigade made the gruesome discovery of a completely charred body on the seat of the vehicle.

Constable Tayrish Buldy is assigned to the West Division. He had been living with Sanjanah Khoobeeram for the past four years, with whom he had a child after separating from his wife. His partner has made statements against him for domestic violence. In the video he posted, he accused the victim of being glued to her mobile phone 24/7 and neglecting her son. He also alleged that “troziem fwa to fer fos are mwa”. Carrying several wounds on his body and bleeding profusely from his right hand, he accused the victim of stabbing him, but the victim denied the accusation. The police officer told investigators that he stabbed the victim before setting fire to the car.

The investigation is being conducted by the men of Superintendent of Police Vikash Babajee under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police Premanand Purmarssur.

Dr Maxwell Monvoisin, Principal Police Medical Officer who conducted the autopsy, was unable to establish the cause of death due to the damage caused by the fire.
