PM Jugnauth Meets Indian External Affairs Minister In New Delhi

PM Pravind Jugnauth met with the Indian External Affairs minister, S Jaishankar today in New Delhi. The prime minister who has been on an 8-day visit to India will be returning back to Mauritius tomorrow.

As per reports, PM Jugnauth and S Jaishankar discussed and reviewed bilateral and economic cooperation along with economic partnerships. The two leaders also discussed news ways to strengthen the relations between Mauritius and India.

PM Jugnauth wrote on Twitter, “I met with Indian Foreign Minister Shri @DrSJaishankar today in New Delhi to review developments in the field of bilateral cooperation and discuss about new ways of strengthening further our long-standing partnership.”

After meeting PM Jugnauth, the Indian External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar wrote on twitter: “Pleased to call on PM of Mauritius @KumarJugnauth. Discussed advancing our development partnership and economic cooperation. India remains solidly committed to this truly special relationship.”

Two weeks ago, the Secretary to the Cabinet of Mauritius, NK Ballah, had met the Indian external affairs minister in New Delhi and said that the bilateral cooperation between the two countries was “progressing from strength to strength”. NK Ballah visited India on the account of receiving state-of-the-art Passenger Variant Dornier (PVD) Aircraft, DO 228 at HAL, Kanpur.

It is also to be noted that during his visit in February 2021, the External Affairs minister of India, S Jaishankar had signed an agreement for the extension of a USD 100 million Line of Credit to Mauritius for the purpose of financing procurement of defence equipment from India.

PM Jugnauth, who is being accompanied by his wife, Kobita Jugnuath and a high-level team on his 8-day visit to India, inaugurated the WHO-Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in Jamnagar on Tuesday and also participated in the Global Ayush Investment and Innovation Summit in Gandhinagar along with his Indian counterpart, Shri Narendra Modi and WHO Chief, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

PM Jugnauth also discussed the ongoing development partnership and cooperation in defence, capacity building, people to people exchanges, rise of the radical islamist ideologies and China’s growing influence and activism in the Indian ocean region in a special meeting with his Indian counter-part, Shri Narendra Modi.
