Plaine Verte: Rs 2 Million Worth Of Alcoholic Beverages Stolen From A Warehouse

A most audacious theft was perpetrated in a warehouse belonging to the Li Wan Po company on rue Dauphine, Plaine Verte. The perpetrators took 1,423 bottles of alcoholic beverages worth Rs 2,010,300. During an inventory, a storekeeper discovered that bottles of wine, liqueur, whisky and gin had disappeared from the warehouse between Saturday December 9 and Saturday December 30, 2023. An exit door at the rear of the warehouse and an anti-theft device had been broken into. The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Metropolitan Police’s Northern Division is handling the investigation.

The theft was reported to the police by one of the company’s storekeepers. The 50-year-old, who lives on Sainte Croix, explained that the discovery was made during an inventory on Thursday morning, January 4.  In a statement made at the Plaine Verte police station on the afternoon of Thursday January 4, the thirty-year-old said the theft could have been committed between Saturday December 9 at around 11am and Saturday December 30 at 8.30am. The thieves forced their way through the exit door at the rear of the warehouse, as well as its anti-theft device, to gain access to the interior.

Bottles of Villiera Sauvignon, Villiera Merlot Rooiberg, Jose Sarmento rum, Paddington whisky and Glen Scanlan, among others, were stolen. All these items are insured. The CID intends to view images from surveillance cameras in the vicinity in order to trace the perpetrators of this theft. The CID is supported in this investigation by elements of the Field Intelligence Office.
