Pedestrian Killed By Cab Wheels

A resident of Terrasson, Pointe aux Sables lost his life in the early evening of Sunday, July 3, while trying to cross the highway at Saint Vincent de Paul Street in Pailles. The victim who was identified shortly after as Harrynenden Narainsamy, 42 years old was hit by a cab. The latter, who lives in Upper Dagotière, was allowed to return home after giving his statement. The autopsy performed on the body of the forty-year-old this morning, Monday, July 4, attributed his death to multiple injuries.

It was at about 6:50 p.m. on Sunday, July 3, that the accident occurred on the Pailles highway. Harrynenden Narainsamy who wanted to cross this highway not far from Saint Vincent de Paul street was hit by a cab heading towards Port-Louis. The impact was so violent that the victim was thrown several meters. An ambulance from the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis was called to the scene to transport him to the hospital. Harrynenden Narainsamy was pronounced dead in the emergency room.

The body of this man was subsequently transported to the morgue of the Dr. Jeetoo Hospital. At the time of the accident, the road was wet and not well lit. The 39-year-old cab driver went to the Central Barracks police station to explain the circumstances under which he hit the pedestrian. He was given a breathalyzer test which was negative.

This driver was allowed to go home after his statement. On the morning of Monday, July 4, he was brought before the Port Louis court on a provisional charge of manslaughter. He was released on bail.

The autopsy performed on the body of Harrynenden Narainsamy on Monday morning, July 4, by Dr. Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer, attributed his death to multiple injuries.
