The new parliamentary term starts this Tuesday 26th October. Arvin Boolell, scandalised about his suspension, will be in front of the Parliament to commemorate this resumption but also to protest against this autocracy that reigns in this supposedly democratic parliament. More than 190 parliamentary questions have remained unanswered during the last parliamentary season between 23rd March and 3rd August, where only 29 sessions were held!
Arvin Boolell was expelled and suspended for 8 weeks by the Speaker, Phokeer. Indignant, the PTr representative and MP for constituency No. 18, Belle Rose – Quatre Bornes, has expressed himself without embellishing this words on his Facebook account. He writes “Parliament returns: Same Speaker? Yet, the Parliament is the temple of democracy. Unfortunately with the tyranny of numbers and the political weapon of The Executive, the Leader of the House PJ and his Ministers responsible for the sacrilege of this Temple… As for the Speaker, it’s business as usual. The questions remain unanswered and PM is first in the hit parade. My suspension is unfair and even those in the MSM say it is disproportionate. I have lodged a case in court to protect parliamentary democracy. We remain as that bulwark against dictatorship. I will be in front of the parliament with my fellow PTr parliamentarians at 11am. Come and mark your presence in respect of the barrier gestures to say No to Autocracy. The support of the parliamentary and extra-parliamentary opposition forces is unwavering. Parliamentary democracy is our salvation. No to opacity. Silence is guilt“. That says it all! He calls upon the public support.
In addition, the other members of the opposition deplore the fact that despite the delays caused by the pandemic, the parliamentary holidays were taken on time, leaving more than 190 questions unanswered, of which about 80 concerned the Prime Minister, about 30 were for the Minister of Finance and the rest for the other ministries combined…
