The Outreach Programme on the Water Tank and Pump Grant Scheme, an ongoing activity organised every Saturday since 12 February 2022 across different regions of Mauritius, was held, today, at the Rivière du Rempart Farmers Service Centre, the Piton Village Hall and the Belle Vue Maurel Village Hall.

The Attorney General, Minister of Agro-Industry and Food Security, Mr Maneesh Gobin, and the Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, Kalpana Devi Koonjoo-Shah, effected site visits at the Centre and the two Village Halls to take stock of the progress of the activity.

This initiative of the Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities in collaboration with the Central Water Authority (CWA) and the Development Bank of Mauritius (DBM), aims to create awareness and provide grants to low income families for the purchase of a water tank of capacity 400 to 1,000 litres and a domestic water pump.

Residents of these regions have been convened to the Centre and the two Village Halls to apply for the grant with an eligibility monthly income not exceeding Rs 50,000.

The Programme is being carried out on Saturdays in water stressed areas where inhabitants face water shortages during drought. The programme is providing more proximity with inhabitants as they are able to apply for the scheme without going to the headquarters of the Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities.

The next Outreach Programme is scheduled on Saturday 23 April 2022 from 09:30 hours to 13 hours in the regions of Mahebourg and Plaine Magnien.

Water Tank Grant Scheme

The Water Tank Grant Scheme was increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000 following the 2019/2020 budget to include the purchase of a domestic water pump. For families who opt for only a water tank, the grant is limited to a maximum of Rs 5,000.

Beneficiaries should not have already received a grant under the Water Tank Grant Scheme. Required documents are: Identity Card; Payslip; Marriage Certificate (As applicable); CWA Bill; Pension Card (If applicable); and If widow/widower, death certificate of spouse.
