On His Way To Work, He Is Killed In An Accident

Georges Arlanda, 61, met a tragic end on Tuesday morning, July 19. The Albion resident was on his way to work when he was involved in a traffic accident with his motorcycle, which collided with a truck on the Royal Road in Montée S. The 60-year-old did not survive. An autopsy performed at the morgue of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis attributed his death to multiple injuries.

This terrible accident occurred around 7:00 am on Tuesday, July 19th. Georges Arlanda, who worked as a pressman at Caractère Ltée of the La Sentinelle group, was on his way to work in Baie du Tombeau at the time of the accident. A team of police officers from the Koenig Tower Police Station were immediately alerted and arrived on the scene. An ambulance from the Emergency Medical Service was also dispatched to the scene. Unfortunately, the doctor on board was only able to confirm the death of the motorcyclist.

His body was transported to the morgue of the Dr. Jeetoo Hospital for an autopsy. The autopsy, performed by Dr. Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer, attributed his death to multiple injuries.

The driver of the truck, a 30-year-old Vacoassian, was taken to the Koenig Tower Police Station for a breathalyzer test by Emergency Response Service officers. The test was negative. The driver was arrested on a provisional charge of manslaughter. After his appearance in Port Louis court, he was later released on bail.

Georges Arlanda, who was single, had worked for many years at the Mauritius Stationery Manufacturers (MSM) Ltd in Bell-Village. For the past eight years, he joined the Sentinel Group Ltd. after a merger of the MSM, which was initially handled by the Sentinel.

Georges Arlanda’s funeral is scheduled for this Wednesday, July 20 at 3:00 pm. After the funeral ceremony at the Père Laval chapel in Borstal, Grande-Rivière Nord-Ouest, he will be buried at the West cemetery in Les Salines.

On the other hand, Parvez Mohammad Jauferally, 42 years old and resident of Grand Sable, succumbed to his injuries around 10:20 pm on Sunday evening, July 17. The van he was driving was involved in a road accident in a curve at Pointe du Diable, Vieux Grand Port with a bus. The bus, coming from Vieux Grand Port, was driving towards Flacq while the van was coming in the opposite direction. A 69 year old woman, who was traveling with the victim, was admitted to the Flacq Hospital with injuries.

Dr. Chamane, who performed an autopsy on Parvez Jauferally’s body around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, July 18, attributed his death to multiple injuries. The bus driver, 30 years old and resident of Rivière des Créoles, was brought before the court this Monday morning, July 18, on a provisional charge of manslaughter. He was later released on a bail of Rs 15,000 and paid an IOU of Rs 50,000.
