This Sunday, July 25 was the second day of the Olympic Games of Tokyo 2021. For the time being, China’s runner-up is still Japan: the host country did very well on Sunday, winning no less than four gold medals. In judo, the Nipponese achieved a superb family double with gold for Uta Abe, in -52kg, and for her brother Hifumi Abe, in -66kg. Also noteworthy, the first ever Olympic title for a skateboarder, with Yuto Horigome.
The United States, which had finished far ahead of the medal standings in Rio (with 121 medals), began their comeback, after a surprisingly blank day on Friday. In a few hours, the Americans collected ten medals (four gold), including six in swimming.
As for France, it gained places with its two medals: the silver of the judokate Amandine Buchard (-52kg) and the surprise gold for the epeeist Romain Cannone. At the 7th place, ex aequo with Australia with a medal of each metal, Les Bleus are also ahead of Italy, South Korea and the Russian Olympic Committee.
