Must Read

Yesterday, Joe Lesjongard and Avinash Teeluck and MP Kavi Doolub of the MSM hosted a press conference at the Sun Trust Building in Port-Louis.

The Minister of Arts and Cultural Heritage commented on the conflict between the Commissioner of Police and the Director of Public Prosecutions in a press conference this Saturday. Avinash Teeluck says that the two persons hold constitutional posts and must work together. However, he added that there has been much criticism on Anil Kumar Dip. For him, the police is there to do a job. This job is being done based on the information they have. For him, it is wrong to say that the police make arbitrary arrests and play a partisan role. “I do not have any reason to doubt what the CP is doing,” he said.

In his speech, Joe Lesjongard, Minister of Energy and Utilities, dwelt on the measures taken by his department, particularly in the energy sector. He emphasized that the government has undertaken important initiatives concerning the transition to renewable energy. He spoke of the Schemes granted by the CEB to all types of operators, so that they can produce clean energy and install solar panels on the homes of vulnerable people. But also, the facilities that were granted in the manufacturing sector, hotels, shopping malls, private operators, and farmers, in the last budget, to speed up the transition. While he says other major projects are in the pipeline, which could guarantee 8,000 hours of clean energy production a year.

Kavi Doolub, MP for constituency no. 12, spoke of the extraordinary performance of Mauritian athletes at the Special Olympics Worlds Games. He deplored the fact that the opposition wanted people to believe that this was an attempt to buy young people’s votes. He said he was disappointed that the opposing members of the chamber thought that young people’s consciences were worth Rs 20,000. But also sad to think that the opposition believes that the new majors will have no discernment about how to spend the money.
