A joint operation of the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (Adsu) at the airport and the Customs Anti-Narcotic Section (Cans) of the Mauritius Revenue Authority intercepted a suspicious package that arrived at a warehouse of an express courier company at the airport in Plaisance on Friday 8 July. It turned out to contain six marble balls in which drugs were hidden. This one weighing 1 kilo 73 grams, is of a market value of Rs 25 950 000. A Nigerian student, Emmanuel Chinonso Njida, 27 years old, was apprehended in Pailles on Tuesday, July 12, when he came to take delivery of this package.
This case was uncovered at around 8:50 pm on the evening of Friday, July 8, after the package was received by British Airways flight BA 2063 from London. A check carried out allowed to discover that this parcel contained six marble balls which contained a certain quantity of heroin. It was addressed to two people, whose address is located in Pailles and a cell phone number.
A controlled delivery operation was set up during the day on Tuesday 12 July and at around 10:20 am, Emmanuel Chinonso Njida was arrested. The latter had come to take the delivery of this parcel with a delivery agent in Pailles. This Nigerian arrived in Mauritius for the first time on 17 April 2019. His visa would have already expired.
This student holds a provisional student permit valid until October 31, 2022. He is attending a business school and living in the city of Quatre-Bornes. He was brought before the court in Port-Louis this Wednesday morning, July 13. He is facing a provisional charge of drug trafficking, in an attempt to take delivery of a package containing heroin.
