The Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) believes that the new Construction Industry Development Act 2021 will modernize the construction industry. Here is how.
In a September 30 press release, the CIDB states that the following regulations will help modernize the local construction industry:
Registration
The new registration system will strengthen registration requirements for both the suppliers of materials and for service providers.
Professionals in quantity surveying and engineering who cannot be registered at the CIDB may still operate as consultants under strict conditions.
Conditions
The CIDB will issue a Compliance Notice that acts as a control and monitoring tool to evaluate the performance of construction professionals, especially consultants and contractors, every three years.
Professionals who do not comply with registration processes will be sanctioned and fined up to Rs. 1 million.
Through the new rules, the CIDB management believes that it will ensure the delivery of projects up to the international norms required in the industry.
