Motorcyclist Runs Into MV Pylon

A notorious 24-year-old recidivist ended up in the intensive care unit of the Dr Bruno Cheong Hospital in Flacq after the motorcyclist he was riding ran into a Mauritius Telecom electricity pylon. The accident occurred on the Main Road in La Source, Flacq in the early evening of Sunday, December 18. The 22 year old passenger in the car left the hospital after receiving treatment.

It was around 7:15 p.m. early Sunday evening, Dec. 18, when a team of police officers from the Flacq police station responded to a traffic accident request in La Source. A motorcyclist was seriously injured. This after his two-wheeled machine of the Yamaha brand collided head-on with a MT pylon.

The identity of the motorcyclist has been established. He is a notorious recidivist from Mare La Chaux. He was seriously injured and was lying in the middle of the road. He appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. Another individual, known to the police and living in St Remy, Flacq declared that he was travelling on this motorcycle as a passenger in rump. He told police that the driver lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into a DOT pylon.

The motorcycle was seriously damaged. The driver was not given a breathalyzer test. He was taken to the hospital for a blood test.

In addition, a 17 year old teenager was injured in a hit and run accident at the junction of Piéton Père Laval Street and Pamplemousses Road, St. Croix at 3 a.m. on Sunday, December 18. The unlicensed motorcycle he was driving collided with a silver Chevrolet cab. The driver abandoned his vehicle before fleeing.

The motorcyclist, a resident of Tranquebar, was transported to the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital in Port-Louis on board an ambulance of the Emergency Medical Service. Both vehicles were damaged.

The cab driver is being actively sought by the police. The police have so far been unable to establish the identity of the owner of the car, as the license plate numbers cannot be found in the database of the National Transport Authority.
