The Minister of Fisheries, Sudheer Maudhoo spoke about the importance of repopulating the lagoon and his vision of seeding the lagoon with one million marine species, mainly fish, shrimp and crabs.
It was Saturday in Grand Bay, La Croisette on the occasion of the opening of the Fishing Festival, organized by Ben Javed and Pascal Léonard, members of Samurai Anglers, an association of kayak fishermen. The purpose of this event is to allow fishing enthusiasts, who are interested in river, sea and lake fishing, to discover the latest fishing techniques through fishing accessories.
He said that in the coming days, the Ministry of Fisheries will start incessantly the project of coral culture.
At the launch of the Fishing Festival, the Minister of Fisheries, Sudheer Maudhoo thanked the Samurai Anglers for organizing this festival, which has aroused great interest among citizens to practice fishing as an activity. This shows that fishing has its place not only among fishing enthusiasts but also for the blue economy, because the ocean is the only divine natural resource that Mauritius has, as the minister said.
An exhibition selling fishing equipment, explanations on the reproductivity of marine species, among others, marked the opening of the Fishing Festival this weekend.
