Consumption: No Price Increase For Basic Products Until Further Notice

Must Read

No price increase for basic products, such as rice, dry grains, canned tomatoes or edible oil, is planned until further notice. This was stated by the Ministry of Commerce and Consumer Protection in a statement.

The Ministry reacted after several experts predicted an increase in some products from Monday, November 8 following the increase in the cost of freight and raw material of some products.

The ministry reassures consumers that under the Consumer Protection (Maximum Price of Essential Goods) Regulations 2021, no price increase is possible on the 347 products subsidized by the state.

The release also states that regarding edible oil, importers have faced a shortage of raw material due to delays in shipping. The ministry then took the decision to increase the state subsidy to keep the price of edible oil as low as possible.

In the end, the ministry asks the public to remain vigilant and report any abuse to the 185 hotline.

Consumer Affairs Unit inspectors will be making more visits to businesses to ensure that there are no increases that violate regulations.
