Mason Suffers Fatal Fall After Scaffolding Collapses

Must Read

Dhiraj Bonah, known as Sergio, a 50-year-old mason, did not survive his injuries on the morning of Saturday August 26 when he fell while working on scaffolding in Poste de Flacq. The resident of this village found himself on the ground when the scaffolding structures gave way. The 50-year-old was bleeding from the head. A doctor from the Emergency Medical Service (Samu) arrived on the scene, only to find that the 50-year-old had died.

The tragedy took place shortly before 9.03 a.m. on the morning of Saturday August 26. The victim and a colleague were working on scaffolding, plastering a two-storey building under construction. At some point, the scaffolding collapsed. In his fall, Dhiraj Bonah’s head struck the edge of a wall before landing on the ground. The other injured mason, aged 46 and living in Poste de Flacq, was taken to the Dr Bruno Cheong hospital in Flacq by ambulance from the Samu. After receiving treatment in the emergency department, he was admitted to the ward.

A Samu ambulance was immediately dispatched to the scene of the accident. Unfortunately, the doctor on board was unable to pronounce the mason dead. A team from the Flacq police station arrived at almost the same time, and found the man’s body covered with a sheet. The bricklayer’s body was then taken to the morgue of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port-Louis, for an autopsy. The autopsy, carried out by Dr Ananda Sunnassee, Police Medical Officer, attributed the death to multiple injuries.

An investigation has been launched to shed light on the circumstances of this accident.

Dhiraj Bonah’s funeral took place on Sunday morning August 27 at 9am. He was cremated at the Laventure crematorium.
