Landscaper Arrested For Assault On Police Officer

A 32-year-old landscaper was released on bail on Monday, November 29 after spending a night in a police cell. Tarun Ladaroo, a resident of Quatre-Cocos, was arrested on Sunday evening, November 28, for assaulting a police officer. Police officers from the Belle-Mare police station had gone to his home following a request from his father. The landscaper, who was under the influence of alcohol, was misbehaving and violent. He punched a police officer who tried to call him to order and also threatened him with a knife.

It was around 8:16 pm that two police officers from the Belle-Mare police station went to Quatre-Cocos following a request from a resident of this village. This man was complaining about his son’s behavior. The latter was under the influence of alcohol and was violent. The young man injured his finger when he broke a glass panel.

One of two police officers approached him and tried to bring him to order. But Tarun Ladaroo would not listen to reason. He became more violent and punched the policeman in the abdomen. Afterwards, he ran towards his kitchen and returned with a knife. The thirty-year-old threatened the officer but the latter, with the help of his colleague, managed to subdue him before arresting him.

The officer went to the Dr Bruno Cheong Hospital in Flacq and was given three days sick leave.

Tarun Ladaroo was brought before the Flacq Court during the day on Monday 29 November on a provisional charge of assaulting a police officer. He was released on bail of Rs 10,000.
