Jewelry And Silver Worth Rs 250,000 Taken From The Home Of A Septuagenarian

A burglary took place at the home of a 73-year-old woman in 5e Mile Belvedère, Beau Bassin, on Thursday March 28. The thieves broke open a metal door and an Xpanda door to gain access to the interior of her home. They made off with a sum of Rs 61,000 and various items of gold jewelry. She suspects a 17-year-old teenager who had come to her house several times to ask for money, and another man who had recently worked on her house to repair a metal door. The total value is estimated at Rs 250,000.

It was in the late afternoon of Thursday March 28 that this septuagenarian went to the Beau Bassin police station to report this case of burglary. The theft took place between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Wednesday March 28, during her absence.  A sum of Rs 61,000 in denominations of Rs 1000 and Rs 500, a watch, a pair of gold bracelets, a pair of earrings and a gold chain were found in a drawer in her bedroom.

The septuagenarian said she suspected a 17-year-old teenager who had come into the supermarket on several occasions to ask her for money, and a man who came to her house to repair metal doors.

Beau Bassin’s Criminal Investigation Division is working with their colleagues at the Field Intelligence Office to trace the jewelry and money.
