Must Read

The Independent Police Complaints Commission has concluded its investigation into allegations of police brutality made by Krishna Seetul. The agency says the case has been referred to the Director of Public Prosecutions. The IPCC recommends that 7 police officers be prosecuted for aggravated assault. The 7 police officers in question are: Inspector Derochoonee, Sergeant Reedoye and Constables Purgus, Baptist, Begue, Shibchurn and Gokhool.

Constable Purgus was the last of the “Red Earth CID 4” to be arrested. He was also the first to be released on bail on Friday. His three former colleagues, Inspector Derochoonee, Sergeant Reedoye and Constable Gokhool are also appearing in the Pamplemousses court in connection with the alleged torture case. The Independent Police Complaints Commission, which is leading the prosecution, will take the same position as in the case of Purgus did not object to the release on bail of the suspects. It may be recalled that Constable Purgus was released on a bail of Rs 20,000 and an IOU of Rs 100,000.
