According to Statistics Mauritius latest monthly bulletin, the overall inflation rate for the twelve months ending March 2023 stood at 11.1%, compared to 6.0% for the twelve months ending March 2022. The headline inflation rate was 10.8% for the year 2022, compared to 4.0% for the year 2021 (Table 5).
The overall inflation rate excluding “alcoholic beverages and tobacco” was 11.0% for the year 2022, compared to 3.7% for the year 2021. The headline inflation rate excluding “alcoholic beverages and tobacco” for the twelve months to March 2023 was 11.4%, compared to 5.7% for the twelve months to March 2022.
The consumer price index, which stood at 127.1 in December 2022, recorded a net increase of 4.0 points (or +3.2%) to 131.1 in March 2023. On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 1.4 points in January, 2.0 points in February and 0.6 points in March.
