In Pointe Aux Sables: Mother And Son Arrested For Rebellion And Assault

Must Read

Family members and neighbors in the area of Jean Blaise, Pointe aux Sables demonstrated hostility towards police officers from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the Metropolitan Police of the Southern Division during a search on Thursday, June 9. One officer was injured in the left arm by an edged weapon and three others were injured by stone throwing. In the end, Jouelle Genave, 26, and his mother, Joseline Genave, 54, were arrested. These two suspects were already on parole for murder in 2016 in Cité Bois-Marchand, Terre-Rouge.

It was around noon on Thursday, June 9, when these CID officers arrived at this address for a search. They had information that Jouelle Genave was involved in five cases of theft and that stolen items were stored in her house. When the police arrived, Jouelle Genave had to run inside his house. He was chased, but members of his family had to resist the police. His mother Joseline Genave resisted his arrest. She fought with the police and prevented them from handcuffing her son.

The CID officers were unable to search the house because neighbors joined the family in hostility to oppose Jouelle Genave’s arrest. While he was being restrained by a police officer, he had to grab a kitchen knife to inflict a violent blow to the left arm of the police officer. The suspect’s sister threw stones at police officers, and three of them were injured.

Jouelle Genave was arrested on a charge of assault causing bloodshed. His mother was arrested on a charge of rebellion. They were brought before the court in Bambous on Friday, June 10, and were taken back to the police cell.
