In Belles-Îles, Bamboo: He Kills His Concubine And Tries To Commit Suicide

Must Read

The region of Belles-Îles, Bambous is in turmoil since the beginning of the evening of Monday March 7.  On the eve of the celebration of the International Women’s Day, Dixitha Veerapen, 24 years old, was killed by her partner, Vidianand Beekhary, 28 years old and also known as Vicky, in front of their 10 months old daughter.

It was the couple’s neighbors who called the police after hearing a heated argument inside their only small tin room. They could not intervene because the door was locked from the inside. The police were able to gain access after breaking down the door.

Vidianand Beekhary was lying on the floor and bleeding from his left forearm. He was holding a pair of scissors in his hand. Next to him, his concubine, Dixitha Veerapen, was in a sitting position with her head bent back against a bed. The young woman had bruises and wounds on her body.

At 6:55 p.m. on Monday, March 7, a team from the Bambous police station went to Belles-Filles, following a request. The police officers were informed on the spot that the couple, who live in this single room in sheet metal, had been arguing a lot. As the companion of the young woman was crying heavily, the police officers decided to enter the room and they discovered a scene of horror.

Injured, Vidianand Beekhary was still alive, but his companion was not breathing anymore.  Half-naked, she bore traces of violence all over her body while her clothes were scattered on the floor. The police tried to question her companion, but without success. An ambulance from the Emergency Medical Service (SAMU) was requested to transport him to the Victoria Hospital, Candos. After receiving treatment, he was admitted to the ward.

The body of Dixitha Veerapen was examined by Dr. Maxwell Monvoisin, Principal Police Medical Officer at the scene before being transported to the morgue of the Dr. A.G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port Louis for an autopsy. The autopsy performed this Tuesday morning, March 8, attributed the death to hemorrhagic shock, following a beating.
