Not wanting to keep a relationship with her boyfriend, a 22-year-old beautician from Petite-Rivière decided to break up with him. Because this 24-year-old man, who lives in the same village and works as a helper in a company in the capital, has a bad attitude. In January this year, the young woman cut off all contact with him.
However, on the evening of Monday, February 28, this man, Veermalsingh Ramphul, snuck into her room and allegedly sexually abused her. The suspect was arrested and placed in custody.
On Monday, March 7, the beautician went to the Petite-Rivière police station to file a complaint of rape. In her statement, she first made the history of her relationship with Veermalsingh Ramphul where had first meeting dates back to January 28, 2018.
She said she has bad memories of this relationship, because the young man has a bad character. This is the reason why, she explains, that they separated. This definitive rupture took place in January of this year.
On February 28, she confided to the investigators of the police station of Petite-Rivière, it was around 23 hours and she was sleeping in her room when she felt the presence of a person. He removed her shorts and underwear before sexually abusing her. She was screaming and struggling but this person restrained her with his hands and told her to stay still. This man continued to have sex with her forcefully.
It was only after he satisfied his sexual urge that he stopped and she turned on the light in her room. That’s when she saw her ex-boyfriend, who stayed for a while before leaving.
Veermalsingh Ramphul was arrested during the day on Monday March 7. On the same day, he was brought before the court of Bambous where he is facing a provisional charge of rape. He was kept in a police cell at the police station of Camp Levieux, Rose-Hill.
