Illegal Flight: Paraglider Stopped By The Police

Must Read

After a strong sensation, it is by a team of police officers that a 40 years old paraglider and inhabitant of the coastal village of Pereybère was welcomed on the ground in the area of Montagne Longue in the afternoon of Wednesday, October 6. This for having practiced this activity without having had the approval of the civil aviation office. Thus under the Civil Aviation Act, any offender is liable to a fine of Rs 10,000 and imprisonment for one year.

It was shortly after 2 pm on Wednesday, October 6, that the men of the Field Intelligence Office (FIO) of the northern division, led by Inspector Gunga, set up a surveillance in several places in Montagne Longue after information was obtained from Sergeant Arnasala of the FIO that paragliders were flying over this village.  These officers were able to follow one of these paragliders after he landed. The individual was unable to produce to the police a permit from the civil aviation department authorizing him to practice this activity.

Paraglider

The offender was taken to the Montagne Longue police station for a verification of his identity and address. This man who is an engineer by training produced his passport. He was then allowed to leave after giving his statement.

As a reminder, the office of the police commissioner, by interim had issued a statement dated Friday, August 27 to remind that paragliding is illegal without a civil aviation authorization. Especially after a collision had been narrowly avoided a week earlier at 2000 altitude between a helicopter and a paraglider above the Kestrel Valley in Bois- des-Amourettes.
