IBA’s New Regulations Are “Unconstitutional” – Says Ramgoolam

Must Read

Navin Ramgoolam reacted to the new regulations of the Independent Broadcasting Act (IBA) on Thursday. He was participating in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Samadhi in Pamplemousses commemorating the 37th anniversary of the death of the former Prime Minister. Navin Ramgoolam said he had read the new regulations and he believes there should be a Judicial Review. For him, these new regulations are contrary to the Constitution.

For Boolell, IBA’s new directives amount to “indirect censorship”

According to the Labour leader in Parliament, the new regulations of the Independent Broadcasting Authority, which were added to the Act, represent a form of indirect censorship imposed on private radio stations. Arvin Boolell faced the press on Friday, and promised that once they are back in power, a new government will introduce new laws, including the concept of « Public Interest Litigation ». Arvin Boolell also commented on the increase in the key interest rate from 4% to 4.5%. He said that the middle class will be greatly affected and added that the government is mismanaging the economy.
