The race day scheduled for last Sunday has been canceled and we will have a weekend of races instead of a single day on Saturday this week. The main event, which is considered a preparatory race for The People’s Derby Cup (2400m – G1) to be held on September 3, attracted only four runner who will compete over 2200m. Twist Of Fate is the hot favorite, but he will have to be wary of Lunafacation and Alshibaa.
This group 2 race was to be held last Sunday. It will finally be run this Saturday with a fourth runners with The Dazzler, who joined the three contenders of last week. All these horses had an extra week of preparation, and it seems to have benefited Twist Of Fate who improved his physical condition, and he is close to his best.
Twist Of Fate did not disgrace for his comeback race as he finished only four lengths behind the winner, The Gatekeeper. He will run over a longer trip which will better suit him this Saturday. The winner of the 2022 Maiden Cup (2400m – G1) will rely on his strong finish to win. This classy horse has improved, and he will be the one to beat with Chilian jockey Roberto Perez in the saddle.
Lunafacation could have done better last time if he had taken full advantage of his handicap to take the ‘first run’ on his opponents. He failed narrowly behind Special Blend. The Samraj Mahadia-trained horse will, once again, be associated with jockey Dinesh Sooful. Everything suggests that he will be able to have a soft lead in the absence of any other real ‘front runner’. He will be very hard to catch.
Alshibaa is the other classy horse of the lot. This champion horse trained by Ricky Maingard has nothing to prove with two wins in the Maiden Cup. He did well on the 17th meeting taking a good 4th place. He seems in a better shape. He does not have a first-class chance, but he should not be ignored. He will be reunited with the French jockey Cédric Ségeon with whom he won the Maiden Cup of 2020 by beating White River.
The Dazzler was not unworthy in his race of the 10th day over 1850m. He can attempt a tactical move with his lightweight. But will have to be at his best to beat his opponents.
