Crank It Up can win his second race at the Champ-de-Mars this Saturday. His main opponent will be Stream Ahead and trainer Ramapatee Gujadhur’s duo of Black Cat Back and Favor can join in the battle for victory.
Crank It Up showed a lot of quality when he won last time. The Shirish Narang-trained horse was as quick as Stream Ahead when the starting stalls opened. José Da Silva then chosen to retain his mount to place him behind Stream Ahead and Undercover Agent. The Brazilian jockey did very well in the backstraight when he didn’t insist on improving his position, but that resulted in him having a lot of ground to redo in the straight final. Crank It Up produced a very good finish to defeat.
Crank It Up finished in third place in The Duchess Of York Cup on his debut. He is now in a better physical condition. Crank It Up will have Mauritian jockey Jameer Allyhosain in the saddle this time. He will try to take advantage of the first draw at the start as he can follow the leader in a striking position. Trainer Ramapatee Gujadhur has chosen to run Black Cat Back directly over 1600m for his first outing this season. His last victory dates to December 2020 when he won the Gold Cup. Black Cat Back did not win in 2021. This excellent front runner was never able to race in the lead, but he pleasantly surprised by finishing in the places despite difficult races last year. He can be right there if the circumstances are in his favor.
Newcomer Favor is a very good stayer who has won five times over 1900m, 2000m (3) and 2200m in South Africa. He usually runs from off the pace before finishing strongly. He did well in training, and he can start on a good note.
