Heavy Rainfall: Body Of 89-Year-Old Woman Found In A Flowing River

The heavy rains of this Thursday morning of January 26 made a victim. Ameedabee Mohoboob, born Codaboccus, 89 years old, was fished out of a river at the back of the TFP store in Eau-Coulée around 2 pm this Thursday afternoon, January 26. This resident of De Couson Street, Curepipe who had gone to feed fish in a river behind her house, was reported missing shortly after.

It is around 6:30 am this Thursday morning, January 26, that this drama would have occurred. Her son Azaad Mohoboob, a 65-year-old businessman, reported her disappearance to the Curepipe police station. He said he had information that his mother, who was fed fish in a river that crosses behind the house, would have fallen accidentally and would have been swept away by the waters leading to Water-Castle.

With volunteers, the son organized a search for his mother up to the Abbé de la Caille bridge, Curepipe, but in vain. The search continued along this river by police officers of Curepipe and elements of the Mauritian Police Intervention Group. It was around 2 pm that the body of Ameedabee Mohoboob who was wearing a flowered dress was found in a river at Eau-Coulée. This one crosses behind the store TFP.

The body of Ameedabee Mohoboob was later taken to the Victoria Hospital morgue in Candos for an autopsy. The autopsy, conducted by Dr. Sudesh Kumar Gungadin, head of the police forensic department and Dr. Prem Chamane, Principal Police Medical Officer, attributed the death to a broken neck.

The funeral of Ameedabee Mohoboob was held on Thursday evening, January 26.
