The Medical Disciplinary Tribunal has given its ruling on Tuesday 18 October. Gynaecologist Arvind Ramgulam will not be able to practice. He has been struck off the Medical Practitioners’ Register. A decision taken by the Medical Disciplinary Council after the submission of the Medical Disciplinary Tribunal’s report in relation to a case of illegal abortion in which he was involved. The case dates back to 2017. The Medical Council had obtained information about an illegal abortion performed by Dr. Arvind Ramgulam in a private clinic. Four charges were brought against him, including one for breach of the doctors’ code of practice. The Medical Council had then asked the Medical Disciplinary Tribunal to investigate the case. The report was submitted to the Council on Tuesday and the decision was taken to remove Dr. Ramgulam from the list of persons registered with the Medical Council.
