Gudhi Padwa To Be Celebrated At National Level In The Presence Of The Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth

On Wednesday 30th March 2022, the Mauritius Marathi Mandali Federation, in collaboration with the Mauritius Marathi Cultural Centre Trust, the Marathi Speaking Union and the Baie Du Cap Marathi Kaylashnath Mandir, held a press conference for the upcoming celebrations of Gudhi Padwa (Marathi New Year).

The press conference was held in the presence of the President of the Cultural Association; Mr Asant Govind CSK; the Chairman of the Marathi Cultural Centre Trust, Mr Arjoon Putlajee; the President of the Marathi Speaking Union, Mr Niteen Bappoo and the President of Baie du Cap Marathi Kaylashnath Mandir, Mr Narain Geeandeo.

Welcoming the changes in the precautionary measures concerning the Covid-19 situation, from 10 persons to 50 persons allowed in every place of worship and cultural celebrations; Mr Asant Govind CSK announced the upcoming celebrations of Gudhi Padwa (Marathi New Year) at National Level on Saturday 02nd April 2022 at the seat of Baie Du Cap Marathi Kaylashnath Mandir. Mr Govind announced that the Prime Minister, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth will be the chief guest of the celebrations and the Panchang (Hindu calendar) will be distributed to every guest present during the ceremony.

During the press conference, the Chairman of the Marathi Cultural Centre Trust, Mr Arjoon Putlajee spoke about the program set up for the occasion. The ceremony will start at 7:30 am with the Bramadhudge Puja, followed by a cultural show starting around 10:30 am and ending around 12:30 am. The cultural show will be performed mainly by artists from Baie du Cap, Riviere Noir, Flic-en-Flac, Palma and other surrounding villages. Taking into consideration the new protocols announced by the High Level Committee, only a few members of the association will be able to attend the event in Baie du Cap but the public is invited to follow the celebrations on MBC TV.

The President of the Marathi Speaking Union, Mr Niteen Bappoo spoke about the initiative taken by the Marathi Speaking Union, in collaboration with the MBC radio, where many emissions have been aired on radio about the importance and significance of the Gudhi Padwa celebrations.

Mr Narain Geeandeo, the President of Baie du Cap Marathi Kaylashnath Mandir, thank the associations for having chosen the Baie du Cap Marathi Kaylashnath Mandir for the national celebrations this year.
