According to Noémie Alphonse this result is synonymous with the African record. The previous record was in the time of 1h 58mins. The best time held by Noémie Alphonse before this record performance was 2h 11mins 59secs.
“I am very happy. I think this is the African record. This is the second time I’ve run a marathon. It is an achievement,” said Noémie Alphonse.
It is the American Susannah Scaroni, 1h 27mins 31 secs and Jenna Fesemyer, 1h 33mins 50secs who climbed on the two highest steps of the podium.
