Must Read

The news was announced this afternoon. Pope Francis has named the successor of Cardinal Maurice Piat as Bishop of Port-Louis. His name is Father Jean Michaël Durhône. He thus becomes the 12th bishop of Port Louis and the third Mauritian priest to become Bishop of Port-Louis.

Jean-Michaël Durhône was born in Vacoas, Mauritius, on June 05, 1973. He was ordained a priest on August 07, 2005. On July 31, 2016, Cardinal Piat appointed him as Episcopal Delegate of the Diocesan Service of Catechesis and Catechumenate. He was appointed Chaplain of the Altar Servers in 2012, of St. Mary’s College, Rose-Hill, in 2013 and of Catholic Worker Youth in 2018. He also serves as secretary of CEDOI. In 2020, Cardinal Piat put him in charge of the Diocesan Youth Ministry Service. In 2022, he was appointed pastor of Sainte-Famille, in Rose-Belle. He is at the parish only during the weekend.

As a reminder, it was in 2016 that Bishop Maurice E. Piat submitted his letter of resignation as Bishop of Port Louis to Pope Francis. In November of that same year, he had been elevated to the rank of cardinal by Pope Francis.
