ESC Objects To A Recount Of Votes In No. 15

Must Read

The Electoral Supervisory Commission was waiting for the report of the Deputy Master and Registrar before taking a position on Cader Sayed Hossen’s request for a recount. This morning, the document was filed in court. The ESC, through its representative, Rishi Pursem, said that there is no reason for the court to grant a recount. Mr Pursem said the exercise of checking the grey boxes, which contain all the documents used in the counting, showed no error in the counting of votes. The total votes cast for Gilbert Bablee and Cader Sayed-Hossen tally with the figures declared by the Returning Officer. “There is no need for a recount,” Rishi Pursem told judges Benjamin Marie Joseph and Raatna Seetohul-Toolsee. Darshinee Choytah, who represented Cader Sayed-Hossen, in the absence of Senior Counsel Gavin Glover, said she disagreed with Pursem’s view. The case was adjourned to 16 September 2022.
